Play Pretend

Young she was, young at age
She played pretend in a made up cage.
A princess, a doctor, a singer she was,
Too young to notice all of her flaws.
Young she is, young at heart,
Still playing pretend, leaping in the dark.
Time passes by, she pretends she has plenty,
Making promises to herself but they all end up empty.
She sees her work piling,
The brain makes a decision,
But the heart’s way too meek,
It makes a division.
She hears people calling but pretends not to hear,
Keeps turning and fidgeting,
Trembling in fear.
How long will she play pretend?
How long will life be black and gray?
“It is now a pattern, this game has no end”
Ignorance is bliss is false as they say.
Anjali (she/her) is a 16 year old student writer who appreciates and finds a deep interest in reading and writing different pieces. She wants her writing to speak to people and help them even in the smallest ways possible.
She only hopes to move the world with her words someday, but until then drowning herself into music and literature will have to do.
It’s curtain call, and the applause is for you. This is phenomenal. The standing ovation represents only a fraction of the recognition you deserve. I couldn’t have been more impressed. Well done!💜
