This Week in Astrology: January 30th-Feb 5th

Written by Mars, edited by Meg T.

Welcome to your astrological forecast! We are kicking off the new cycle with Aries Season which means we are once again embracing the Astrological New Year. This is the time to charge ahead, to take forward the reflections from Winter and create something new: a new career, a new mindset, a new life.

Weekly Moon Phases

  • March 18th-21st: We’ve just celebrated March’s Full Moon on March 18th in the sign of Virgo, giving us an earthy balance in the midst of all the floaty, sometimes confusing, Piscean energy. Pisces takes us to the other realms and with so many planets in Pisces, it makes sense that we’re not really grounded in reality, so take comfort in this if you’ve been feeling a little lost recently. However, Virgo’s very practical energy, so the fog should dissipate somewhat during the Full Moon, its grounding energy seeing us through until March 22nd/23rd. This Full Moon will trine the ‘tiny destroyer’ Pluto; trines being a favourable aspect, so we can focus on clearing out our emotions.

  • March 22nd-24th: The Moon moves into Waning Gibbous after its fullest point, travelling through the signs of Libra and Scorpio, helping us plant the seeds for balance and introspection. The Last Quarter moon in Scorpio and Sagittarius lands on 23rd March, giving us time to act on our reflections and consider the things we must let go or change.

Planetary Zodiacs

Sun: The Sun is in our fiery first sign of the zodiac, Aries, on March 20th. Aries embodies “I am” and the Sun represents our will and sense of self, so an Aries Sun energy really has the ability to give us belief and confidence in who we are.

Mercury: Planet of communication Mercury is still in Pisces until March 27th and as Piscean communication styles are not always the most assertive, we might find ourselves feeling a little lost or unable to speak up. However, this transit does boost our ability to communicate in creative, dreamy, spiritual ways.

Venus: The planet of love and values, is now in Aquarius after a long stint in Capricorn. Venus in Aquarius can help us cultivate healthy detachment skills, leaving us more able to step back and assess situations and relationships without being overly emotional.

Mars: Action planet Mars is in Aquarius, meaning we are energetic but not necessarily productive. As Aquarius is an Air sign, the ideas are likely there, even if the tangible action is not. This is cooperative energy, meaning you may benefit from teaming up with others to get things finished.

Key Aspects of the Week

For those who don't know: aspects are angles that determine how each planet's energies react with another planet's. They can affect an overall chart's meaning by giving more insight into how that planet behaves under its current zodiac sign.

Mars Square Uranus - 22nd March

If I can offer one piece of advice during this transit it's to protect your tech. Warrior Mars goes up against sly, rebellious Uranus, an outer planet that rules technology. With international affairs tense and cyber-warfare on the horizon, it’s a good idea to reset passwords and security questions, keeping an eye on your most important accounts (email, banking apps, etc).

Venus Conjunct Saturn - March 28

Towards the end of the month, Venus and Saturn will meet; this will be a good transit for assertive conversations with others with practical energy rather than hot-headedness. If there are issues that needing addressing and fixing with your friends, partner(s), relatives, colleague(s), this energy can help give you the ‘firm but fair’ approach you need.
