Welcome to the Astrology of the Week of October 23rd!

Updated: Dec 19, 2021

Written by Mars

Welcome to the astrology of the week October 23rd! We are sliding straight into spooky season as the veil thins and Samhain draws closer. Whatever your cultural heritage is, be sure to do some research regarding your culture’s celebrations and honour this sacred festival. Winter is coming; this is a time for letting go, embracing metaphorical death, endings, and recharging.

Weekly Moon Phases

  • October 20th-21st: The Full Moon in Aries landed on October 20th at 27 degrees of the zodiac’s first sign with Pluto squaring the Sun and Moon. It’s no surprise if you’ve felt tense recently as Pluto in battle with the Sun and Moon means ego clashes and emotional explosions.

  • October 23rd-on: The moon spins through Taurus and Gemini from October 23rd onwards, giving us a chance to plant all that fiery energy (22nd and 23rd) and then take it out into the world from the 24th once the moon is in networking, sociable Gemini.

Planetary Zodiacs

Sun in Scorpio: The Sun makes a grand entrance into the sign of Scorpio on October 23rd, officially making it ‘Season of the Witch’. Scorpio sun energy is about pure passion, deep emotions, and authenticity. It’s a good time to consider privacy too and you may find you benefit from a social media detox.

Mercury in Libra: Mercury retrograde finally ended on October 18th and this trickster planet is still in Libra until 5th November. Now we are out of retrograde, communication has the capacity to be fair, balanced, and equal.

Venus in Sagittarius: Planet of love and values, Venus, is in witty, flighty Sagittarius until 5th November: we are craving freedom, whether that be physical freedom and travel, or freedom of thought. Sharing our knowledge and philosophies with others feels good and helps us connect.

Mars in Libra, then Scorpio: Warrior planet Mars is in Libra until October 30th making us possibly a little more placid, but once Mars is in one of its home signs – Scorpio – on October 30th we risk being consumed by overwhelming, deep feelings. Be sure to tune in to your body and be mindful of your actions, ensuring you are expressing those deep and beautiful emotions with compassion, and not compulsion.

Key Aspects of the Week

For those who don't know: aspects are angles that determine how each planet's energies react with another planet's. They can affect an overall chart's meaning by giving more insight into how that planet behaves under its current zodiac sign.

Venus trine Jupiter:

Mars square Pluto means we have God of War Mars squaring up to tiny yet deadly Pluto. With these two fierce planets in a challenging aspect to each other, be wary of how you assert yourself, as there could be the tendency to be controlling, aggressive and over-confident. Assertiveness is not attempting to dominate others but stating your boundaries, being firm yet polite, and knowing you cannot control another person’s behaviour. Be compassionate and curious; if you find yourself slipping into such behaviour, self-awareness is key when it comes to regulating our more intense emotions.

Mars trine Pluto:

Beautiful Venus and blessed Jupiter dance lovingly in the sky, making us feel harmonious, generous, and gentle. Embrace this energy as it will feel like dipping into a silky, luxurious bath after the tense battle between Mars and Pluto earlier in the week. This is a short but powerful transit. Act with kindness and watch as kindness flows back to you in abundance.

In solidarity,

Mars
