Advice Column: Vol #1

Written by Victor, one of our advice columnists, and edited by Samantha, one of our guest editors!

"Dear Advice Columnist,

Right now, it's AP testing season, and I'm really stressed about taking my tests and getting a good score. If you were me, how would you manage stress like this? How do I balance everything?"

-Stressed

Dear Stressed,

It starts with addressing your mind and staying committed. All manner of things we go through in life are strenuous, but when we are committed to something, we give ourselves a path to follow through—which often leads to motivation for success. Set your eye on the prize and go for it. Sometimes the process may seem as though it's not worth doing, but once it's over, you'll see how good you are.

You've got to be easy on yourself, calm your nerves by not being your harshest critic. Write about how great you are on a sticky note or in a mirror to remind yourself you can do it!

While you think studying all night will make you smarter, you may be making it harder for yourself. Take time to rest and prioritize getting a full night’s sleep.

Utilize the resources available to you; preparation is key.

Connect with your peers and support each other along the way. You’re all in similar classes, so set up study groups, in-person or virtual, to study for your AP Exam, and check out these 50 ways students stay focused from other AP students.
