Prayer #2
Written by Willow, one of our poetry writers, and edited by Udita, one of our editors!
i.
On the rooftops we decipher sun salutations, or pleas
to the sun, a cherubic cake thief
taunts us to be happy even as
pallid Helios approaches with his whip
ii .
Sunshades are a pitying mercy
to these sleepers swimming with medals as deadweights,
eyelids already encrusted by heart-like corals
By daylight we would have forgotten their grief;
this we learnt as door gods
iii.
Morning only turns erect behind the wire
Our temple, a canopy of comatose fairies
Yesterday the ruby fruits fell & rotted
in a shower of blood, until
we too, became somnolent,
smudging effigies with opium
iv.
The murmur of stiletto heels on basking pavements
stroked to sleep by the sun
is a tricky dirge. The end of us must appear then,
as a sensual cocktail of caffeinated hallucinations
