ways to believe in love
Written by Willow, one of our poetry writers, and edited by Udita, one of our editors!
I meant to say
the angsana tree is blooming today,
& the checker table is undisturbed
if you go now, then that
is one less sunset ended with you,
the anaemic night keeping me awake
& staring like the marble spheres
pushed into the empty socket
of Auguste Rodin's inert lovers
Miss a lyre,
look for a winged love letter
atop the mountains that gaze into ether
when you follow the shepherd's path down
back onto the meadow—
I will keep away the wolves around the homestead
I want us to be rebellious botanists,
howling prayers in the coffee shop
to an ice-cream deity,
melting iron into breezy gossamer
in vague heart shapes.
there is a way to say
I love you
without inviting bullets into our glass garden
& if you close your eyes to the pink fireflies,
more secrets to muting the thunderstorm
than we can see
